Peruvian Textile Arts History – MUNDO ANDINO PERU 🇵🇪
Textile art is the most important artisan manifestation in Peru. It appears during the pre-ceramic archaic period (approximately 2000 BC), once man managed to domesticate cotton and fibers.
The most important textile vestiges are those left by the Wari and Paracas cultures. The techniques of the Wari culture (located northeast of Ayacucho) were later assumed by the Inca culture and later by the Spanish conquerors, who arrived in the 15th century.
At present, the fibers most used for weaving in the Peruvian highlands, in the regions of Puno, Cusco, Huancavelica, Ayacucho and Junín, are alpaca, vicuña, llama and sheep, among others.
